Two deadly accidents along Highway 154 in just one week. The latest took place around midnight on Highway 154 near Windy Gap. CHP said it happened after the driver, 38-year-old Bert Berrera of Malibu, tried to avoid rocks in the roadway.
The passenger, a 45-year-old male from Malibu died. CHP has not released the victim's name pending notification of next of kin.
Drivers we talked with said improvements have been made to Highway 154 but now drivers are getting more confident. Rick Dodge said, "They make the road better and safer and people think it's safer. They're going to drive faster and it just takes one mistake." Another fatal accident happened on Highway 154 east of Lake Cachuma last week. The victim was identified as 58-year-old Nancy Gonnoud.
