Area teams eliminated on the road in CIF, MB and Coast win

Central Coast baseball and softball teams did not fare well on the road Tuesday during the wildcard round of the CIF playoffs.

Paso Robles lost its Division 2 wildcard game 6-1 at Chaminade. The Bearcats, who tied for second in the PAC 7, finished 15-12 overall. The Bearcats fell behind 5-0 after three innings and never recovered. Tanner Berry singled home Chris Pequeno in the fifth inning for Paso Robles' only run of the game. Kevin Victoria struck out 9 Bearcats in 6 innings of work for Chaminade.

Ryan Bendele singled to lead off the game for the Righetti High baseball team, but he was the last Warrior to reach base. The Warriors lost 11-0 at Chino Hills to finish the season 16-11 overall. After allowing the leadoff basehit, Chino Hills pitcher Aaron Dominguez retired the next 21 batters he faced.

The Nipomo High baseball team lost 9-5 at Ontario Christian in a Division 5 wildcard game. The Titans scored 3 runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Ontario regained the lead 4-3 with two runs in the bottom half only to see the Titans score two in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. However, Ontario took the lead for good with a five run fifth inning. The Titans outhit their opponent 10-9, but finished the season 12-9 overall.

Orcutt Academy baseball took an early 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but ended up losing at Buckley 9-5. The Spartans tied the game 5-5 with a run in the fifth inning only to see Buckley regain the lead for good with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Orcutt Academy managed just four hits in the game. Buckley collected 11 hits and won despite committing 6 errors. Orcutt Academy finished the season 13-7 overall.

Coast Union baseball won at the California Military Institue 7-2 in Division 7. The Broncos improved to 8-10 and play at Dunn in a first round game on Friday.

The Arroyo Grande High softball team saw its season come to an end with a 6-1 loss at Burbank in a Division 3 wildcard game. The Eagles finished the season 18-10 overall.

Paso Robles softball lost a close 2-1 opener at Oak Park. The Bearcats finished the season 13-11 overall, while Oak Park improved to 21-6. Jenna Rogers threw a complete game for Paso Robles, but was tagged with the loss. Rogers, Megan Clark and Kellie Reynolds each had two hits at the plate for Paso Robles. Jenna Wookey drove in the Bearcats' only run of the game.

Morro Bay softball provided the lone bright spot. The Pirates won at Gabrielino 8-7. The 13-11 Pirates play at 17-6 Marlborough Thursday in the first round. Jasmine Singh had three hits and scored twice, while Jordan Martinez and Allison Lamb each had 3 RBI for Morro Bay. Michelle Cordova added three hits for the Pirates.
