After getting upset in the first round of the C.I.F. playoffs last year, the Arroyo Grande High boys tennis team made sure history did not repeat itself on Wednesday.
The Eagles crushed visiting Oxnard 15-3 in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs to improve to 17-1 overall this season.
The three-time defending PAC 7 champions won all nine singles sets. Number one player Eli Whittle won his two sets 6-2, 6-0. He sat out the third round to rest his sore lower back. In his place, Bryan Rozo won the third set 6-4.
Jordan Hayashi cruised 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, while Derek Lakowske swept 6-3, 6-1, 6-1.
Tyler Beels and Sean Hollister swept their matches in doubles. They cruised 6-3, 6-1, 6-0.
Arroyo Grande moves on to Friday's second round against El Toro/Villa Park.
The San Luis Obispo Tigers won at West Ranch 11-7 on Wednesday. The PAC 7 runners-up host Santa Monica at 3pm on Friday in a second round match.
