The Arroyo Grande City Council approved an ordinance that would make it illegal for registered sex offenders to come within 300 feet of schools, parks or day care centers.

The Arroyo Grande Police Department proposed that ordinance. State law puts restrictions on how close a sex offender can live to a children's facility, but now sex offenders will face a misdemeanor charge for just being around those places.

Arroyo Grande currently has 10 registered sex offenders living in the city.
