Kyle Brown dominated on the mound and the Eagles collected some clutch two-out hits as Arroyo Grande High baseball beat visiting Burbank 6-1 in a CIF Division 2 first round game on Friday afternoon.
The 19-6-3 Eagles advance to next Tuesday's second round. They'll play #2 seed Temecula Valley. A coin toss will determine the host school.
Brown did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. He struck out 8 Bulldogs in a complete game effort. He scattered 4 hits. Burbank scored one run in the top of the seventh.
AG took a 1-0 lead on a two out, bases loaded infield single from Chris Davidson that scored Casey Muth from third base in the bottom of the second inning.
The Eagles rallied again in the third when Garrett Ball singled and moved to second when Dylan Azevedo was hit by a pitch. AJ Cipolla sacrificed them over to second and third. Muth hit a ground ball to second to score Ball and give AG a 2-0 lead. After Brown walked, Tyler Auerbach clubbed a 2-run double off the right field wall to score Azevedo and Brown and put the Eagles ahead 4-0 after three.
The Eagles added another run in the fourth when Ball hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Davidson, who doubled to lead off the inning. Davidson led the Eagles with 3 hits. AG tallied 11 hits overall as Ball and Paul Ormonde had 2 hits apiece.
Arroyo Grande scored its final run in the sixth on a delayed steal of home.
