The Arroyo Grande boys basketball team beat St. Joseph 60-47 on Friday night in Arroyo Grande to secure an outright Pac 7 championship. After losing their league opener to Righetti 70-45 the Eagles won 11 straight to finish Pac 7 play 11-1.
Arroyo Grande led 14-12 after the first quarter and 26-20 at the half. The Eagles outscored the Knights 24-15 in the third capped by a three pointer at the buzzer by junior Matt Willkom. Willkom led all scorers with 22 points including 3-3 from three point range. Sophomore Keith Datu led the Knights with 18.
St. Joseph never got withing single digits in the fourth and early in the quarter Knights head coach Tom Mott was ejected following back to back technicals for arguing with the referee. The ejection means Mott will have to sit out St. Joseph's first round game in the C-I-F playoffs.
The Knights finish league play an even 6-6 and will be the fourth seed from the Pac 7 behind Arroyo Grande, Righetti and Atascadero. C.I.F. Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Sunday.
