The City of Arroyo Grande has filled the vacant City Council seat.
Kristen Barneich was chosen to fill the seat during the City Council meeting Tuesday night.
Barneich has been on the City Planning Commission for six and a half years. She is currently the Vice Chair of the Commission. She also served two years on the Architectural Review Committee for the City, and she is the president and co-founder of the non-profit, Tree Guild of Arroyo Grande. Barneich has served as a chairperson for Arroyo Grande in Bloom since 2009. Barneich has also been involved in Girl Scouts, the Ocean View PTA, Paulding, PTO, South County Historical Society, and the Lucia Mar Foundation for Innovation.
Barneich attended Arroyo Grande High School and Cuesta College.
Six people applied to fill the vacant seat, but two of them withdrew their applications before the City Council met to decide who would be the best choice.
The seat was vacated on October 4th, when former Council Member Caren Ray resigned after she was appointed to the County of San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors.
Barneich's term runs through December 2016.
