The Arroyo Grande Village Summer Concert Series kicks off this Sunday with a big band jazz show. The fun start at 1p.m. at the Rotary Bandstand. Rose Garden Dance Band will get your toes tapping. In 1946, saxophonist Joe L. Rose built and performed in the Rose Garden Ballroom, near the pier in Pismo Beach, California. His band drew huge crowds from throughout the Central Valley and all of the coastal communities from Santa Cruz to Ventura. In the early 1990's Joe's son, Joel V. Rose, reformed the group and has continued the legacy of his father's band to the present day. The group has played all over the Central Coast and has been a mainstay band at the Madonna Inn for the past 13 years
The free series is presented by the Arroyo Grande Village Improvement Association and the City of Arroyo Grande Recreation & Maintenance Services Department. The 2012 Series will feature a wide variety of musical genres as well as nine local nonprofit organizations and concert sponsors.
