Some members of the homeless population in Arroyo Grande may soon have a free place to park cars and RVs overnight.
The city council will consider a proposal Tuesday night that would allow up to three cars to park at Saint Barnabas' Episcopal Church. If successful after six months, it would be expanded to allow up to five vehicles. Some neighbors in the area are already concerned about the idea.
"You have to drive through a residential neighborhood and then once you get up to the church, it's in a secluded location where there's really nothing around but fields. It's dark up there at night and safety's the number one issue," said Julie Wobrock, who lives nearby.
Wobrock says she supports the program, but thinks there are more suitable places for the homeless to park their vehicles.
The church says it will be strict in determining who can stay there overnight
