Arroyo Grande Police Chief's gun, badge stolen

Arroyo Grande Police Chief Steve Annibali says his badge, gun and other items were stolen from his unmarked police car on Sunday night.

Annibali says the car was parked in front of his Arroyo Grande home.

Just after 11:30 pm, someone smashed the passenger side window and took his response bag, which held his identification, badge, gun, and other emergency supplies.

He says the car was locked, a car alarm was on, and the bag was not in view, so he believes whoever broke into the car knew exactly what they were looking for.

Annibali says in retrospect, he should have taken his response bag out of the car, but he knew his car was alarmed and believed it was secure.

He says he wants the public to know about what happened so everyone is aware that no one is immune to this type of crime.

The chief says this case is an ongoing investigation and they have no suspects at this time.
