The owner of Spencer's Fresh Markets tells KSBY News his Arroyo Grande location is slated to close, but he hopes to relocate the store to another location in the Five Cities area.
John Spencer owns markets in Atascadero, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Arroyo Grande and Santa Maria. Spencer says he has been looking for a new location for his Arroyo Grande store, located in the 1400 block of Grand Avenue, since January. He says a Food-4-Less store has been proposed for a lot near the Arroyo Grande market, and a move would be best for his long term interest given the "future competitive nature of that area." He added that other opportunities have emerged for grocery stores on the Central Coast, and he's looking to make a "strategic move."
In April, Scolari's announced it would close all of its Central Coast locations, including stores in Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach and Santa Barbara.
Spencer says a Smart & Final will be moving in to the Arroyo Grande location when Spencer's Fresh Market moves out.
