The Arroyo Grande High boys tennis team's CIF postseason run ended on Tuesday with a 5-2 loss at La Jolla in the first round of the So-Cal Regional.
Seeded fourth, La Jolla, which was coming off its 44th San Diego Section CIF title, improved to 17-2 overall.
The Eagles finished the season 22-6, but only after they won their fourth consecutive Pac 7 League title and the program's first-ever CIF championship under the direction of head coach Lori Hollister.
Senior Eli Whittle defeated Jake Roberts, the 22nd ranked player in the USTA Southern California rankings, 6-4 and 6-4 to give the Eagles a point. However, Jamieson O'Marr lost 6-0, 6-1, Jake Sarver fell 6-0, 6-2 and Ryan Stier dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision.
Derek Lakowske and Tyler Anderson teamed up to defeat Colton Kellogg and Sasha Kovacevic 7-6 (4), 3-6 and 6-1 to provide AG's second point.
Cole Laughton and Ryley Anderson lost 6-1, 6-1 at the #3 doubles position for AG, while Sean Hollister and Bryan Rozo fell 6-3 and 6-4 at the #1 doubles position. Hollister and Rozo fell to Eric Klein and to the 38th ranked player in the USTA So Cal rankings, Addison Appleby.
This was the first time Arroyo Grande was one of the sixteen teams selected to participate in the Regional Tournament, which also featured Division I schools. AG won the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 title.
