The Arroyo Grande High girls tennis team came within a few points of its first-ever CIF title on Friday. The Eagles lost 10-8 to Laguna Hills in the Division 3 finals at the Claremont Club.

Head coach Lori Hollister's squad finished the season 20-2, Pac 7 League champion and runner-up in CIF. Arroyo Grande was making its first appearance in a CIF final since 1983.

The match was tied 8-8 with one doubles and one singles match still on the courts. Both of those went to Laguna Hills to win the title.

The Eagles won just three of their nine sets in singles. League singles champion Sophie Whittle won 6-0, but dropped the next two 2-6 and 4-6. League runner-up Lauren Hayashi lost two out of three 6-0, 0-6 and 1-6. Alex Mero won one of her three sets 6-0, 0-6, 3-6.

The doubles teams of Amber Domako/Zoe Miller and Chelsea Pudwill/Alexis Flood each won two out of their three sets. Melina Rodgers and Joanne Phung won one out of their three sets.
