Arroyo Grande tennis plays in CIF final Friday morning

The Arroyo Grande High girls tennis team continues its quest for history on Friday in Claremont.

The Eagles, guided by head coach Lori Hollister, battles Laguna Hills at 10:30 at the Claremont Club in the CIF Division 3 Finals. AG is playing in its first CIF final since 1983 in search of its first-ever title.

Arroyo Grande is 20-1 and coming off its third-straight undefeated run through Pac 7 League play. The #2 seed in the division has cruised through the playoffs. The Eagles routed La Reina 17-1 in the first round, blanked Oakwood on the road 18-0 in the second round and topped Capistrano Valley 11-7 in the quarterfinals. Wednesday, the Eagles dominated Aliso Niguel 17-1 for a spot in its first final in nineteen years.

Laguna Hills upset #1 seeded Malibu in the semifinals 11-7.

This marks the Eagles' third-straight opponent from the Sea View League. Capistrano Valley was the league's #1 seed, Laguna finished second and Aliso Niguel was the league's #3 seed for the playoffs.

As of 9:30am, the courts were dry in Claremont and rain was not in the forecast until late afternoon.
