The Arroyo Grande girls tennis team won the Divison 3 championship by a slim margin on Friday. The Eagles tied Murrieta Valley on sets, 9-9, but won the tiebreaker by having a 77-74 edge on games. It was the first CIF championship in program history.

It was another thrilling victory for the cardiac Eagles, Arroyo Grande won a tiebreaker by one game in the quarterfinals and then won in the semifinals, 10-8.

Number one singles player Sophie Whittle swept her matches, winning 6-1, 6-3, 6-0. The senior is now 58-0 for the season. Number two singles player Lauren Hayashi also swept her matches to improve to 61-5.

The Eagles are now 21-1 for the season, they'll find out on Tuesday if they get selected to the Southern California Regional. 16 teams from all divisions in Southern California are selected for the Regional. There isn't a state tournament for high school tennis.
