Atascadero and St. Joseph stay in Pac-7 hunt

The Atascadero and St. Joseph boys basketball teams both moved to within a game of idle Righetti on Friday. The Warriors lead in the Pac-7 is now just one game on the Greyhounds and Knights.

Atascadero jumped out to a big lead and was able to hang on for a 65-58 win at Arroyo Grande. The Greyhounds were up 21-7 at the end of the first quarter and 52-37 at the end of the third. Junior wing Jared Studeman led the Greyhounds with 21 points, junior point guard Joseph Johnson added 19. Atascadero improves to 14-8 overall, 7-2 in the Pac-7. Arroyo Grande drops to 16-8 overall, 5-5 in the Pac-7.

St. Joseph blew out Pioneer Valley at home, 89-46. Junior center Keith Datu led the Knights with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The 6'7" Datu was 10 for 10 from the field. Senior guard Case Bruton was 9 for 11 shooting, he chipped in 18 points for St. Joseph. The Knights improve to 17-6 overall, 7-2 in the Pac-7. Pioneer Valley is now 3-18, 1-9 in league play.

Atascadero, St. Joseph and Righetti all have three Pac-7 games left. The Knights play at Atascadero on Monday, at San Luis Obispo on Wednesday, before finishing the regular season with a home game against Paso Robles next Friday. After playing the Knights, the Greyhounds host Righetti on Wednesday and play at Pioneer Valley next Friday.
