The championship game of the 48th annual Atascadero boys basketball tournament came down to two rivals. Atascadero beat Paso Robles 68-58 in the title game that had to be played at Templeton High School because of a power outage at Atascadero High.
The Greyhounds were led in scoring by sophomore Ryan O'Connell. The 6'6" forward scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Senior guard Brady Youngquist and junior guard Robbie Berwick each scored 17 points. Berwick was named tournament most valuable player.
Junior guard Josh Wilson-Murry paced the Bearcats with 18 points. He led the team in scoring during each tournament game, scoring 30 points and 29 points in the first and second round.
Atascadero improves to 7-6 after starting the season 0-5. Paso Robles drops to 4-8 but the Bearcats have only had Wilson-Murry for three games.
The Greyhounds start Pac-7 play on Friday at San Luis Obispo. The Bearcats open up league play at Pioneer Valley on Friday. The teams play each other again on January 7 in Paso Robles.
