Behind a 27 point third quarter the Atascadero boys basketball beat Steele Canyon, 76-62 in the first round of the 48th Annual Atascadero basketball tournament. The host Greyhounds were up 38-31 at the half but won the third quarter 27-10 to put the game away. Atascadero has now won five of its last six games after starting the season 0-5.
Junior guard Robbie Berwick led the Greyhounds with 17 points and 8 assists. Senior guard Brady Youngquist added 12 points while junior Jared Studeman chipped in 11.
The Greyhounds advance to the semifinals, they'll play Templeton on Friday night at 7:00. The winner of that game will advance to the championship game on Saturday night. There are only seven teams in the tournament and so Templeton played twice on Thursday. The Eagles beat Pioneer Valley, 59-48 but lost their second game to Montclair, 66-61. Montclair will play Paso Robles in the other semifinal. The Bearcats beat Roseville, 59-52 on Thursday behind 30 points from junior Josh Wilson-Murry.
