The Atascadero City Council has approved a proposal for a memorial statue of the late Charles Paddock to be erected at the new entry plaza of the Charles Paddock Zoo.

Council members approved the proposal with a four to zero vote.
Paddock founded the zoo at Atascadero Lake Park in 1955 and was very involved in the community.

Locals hope the statue will help preserve Paddock's legacy. Mark Greenaway, a prominent local artist, is designing the statue.
