Atascadero couple charged with attempted murder in Avila Beach

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies say an Atascadero couple has been booked into county jail on attempted murder charges.
Deputies say it started with a verbal altercation at around 10:30 p.m. Friday night at Mr. Ricks Bar in Avila Beach. They say Michael Darrien Simmons, 43, got into an argument with an unnamed male, and slashed the man with a box cutter, causing a serious injury to the victim's neck.
The victim was taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for stitches and he is expected to recover.
Deputies found the box cutter on Janet Simmons, Mr. Simmon's wife, as they were being booked into jail. They are being held on $500,000 each.
