The Atascadero developer who was trying to build a movie theater in the city says he has pulled out of the project.
Larry Wysong had proposed the La Plaza movie theater at a site on El Camino Real. That's where the North County Christian School Thrift Shop had burned down.
The project sparked controversy because another developer was already building the Galaxy Theater nearby.
The city council feared two theaters would not be viable in Atascadero.
Wysong says the family who owns the site where he planned to build has decided to pursue other options.
He says they will most likely rebuild the thrift store, and he wishes them the best.
