Firefighters in Atascadero opened their doors and their hearts Saturday to help local children in need.

The Morro Toro Fire Station hosted an open house as part of its annual Operation Santa Claus toy drive. There was even a new fire engine on display. All of the donations will benefit children who are currently under the care of San Luis Obispo County's Child Protective Services. Firefighters say spreading holiday cheer is a community effort.

"I think it's very important, a lot of them are underprivileged and in a bad situation so it's good for them to get a little bit of toys," said Josh Block of Cal Fire.

The annual toy drive is put on by the county firefighter's benevolent association.
