The City of Atascadero is taking the first step to saying no to medical marijuana.

The city council voted five to zero Tuesday night to introduce an ordinance that would permanently ban medical marijuana facilities in the city.

The ordinance will be back in front of the council for a second reading on April 13th.

If it's approved, it will go into effect 30 days later on May 13th. Santa Maria, Lompoc and Buellton have already passed similar bans.
