Atascadero police are looking for the man they say robbed a gas station at gunpoint overnight.
Investigators say it happened at the Shell Gas Station in the 8000 block of Morro Road, just after 1:00a.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived on scene, they say the store clerk told them the suspect came in and demanded cash. The clerk told police the suspect was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun, possibly a "glock." Officers believe the suspect got away with about $250 cash. The clerk said the suspect fled the business on foot, west on Morro Road.
Officers say they immediately called in the department's K9 unit to perform a ground search for the suspect. They say he K9 tracked the suspect's scent to the area of Santa Ynez and Morro Road before the scent went flat.
The robber is described as a hispanic male, in his late teens or early 20s. Witnesses say he stands about 5'8" to 6' tall, with a thin build. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt turned inside out, dark blue jeans and he had a white bandana covering his face.
The Atascadero Police Department asks anyone with information on this robbery, or who recognizes the suspect from the photographs to call Detective Nick Coughlin at 461-5051.
