Folks in Atascadero got their first look at plans for a proposed new theater Thursday night.
The 10-screen La Plaza Cinema would be built on El Camino Real in the center of the historic downtown Colony District.
It's actually the second theater complex proposed for the city. Just up the street, another 10-screen theater is already being built. It's part of the Colony Square Project, which is scheduled to open this fall.
On Thursday night, developers and city leaders hosted a special study session to see what the latest proposal is all about. "It's been a really interesting presentation to see what kind of opportunities there are. Twenty screens may truly work and as they talk tonight, we may be the theater capital of the county," said Atascadero City Manager, Wade McKinney.
Developers have submitted an application for a conditional use permit. The project will then go to the planning commission for approval.
