Atkins Nutritionals,Inc. is responding to a report in the British Medical Journal that states an "Atkins-style" diet may hurt your heart.
Swedish researchers said the women in their study on a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet were 28-percent more likely to develop cardiovascular disease.
In a statement to KSBY News, Atkins said the study itself never mentioned the term "Atkins-style" and the diet in the study did not in any way resemble the Atkins Diet.
According to the statement, the diet tested had 51 percent carbohydrates, while the Atkins diet begins at 10 percent and increases to 20-30 percent.
Atkins is asking the British Medical Journal for a retraction.
