The victim of an attempted rape is safe Friday morning after she escapes her alleged attacker.

Santa Maria Police responded to a disturbance call near 1000 West Harding around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

There, they found the partially clothed victim, who said she had accepted a ride from a man and then passed out in his car from drinking.

According to the victim, she woke up to 25-year-old David Mansano Cervantez making unwelcome sexual advances.

When she tried to escape, she says the suspect ripped off some of her clothing.

With aid from a police dog, officers were able to find Cervantez and he was taken into custody.
