For young children with autism, engaging their attention by gesturing and physically pointing at objects may help them with their language.
Researchers from UCLA studied the outcomes of kids with autism who had such attention-focusing therapy at age 3 or 4.
By age 8, those children had more advanced vocabulary, memory and language skills than children who received standard care.
