More and more celebrities are speaking out about wearing body shapers like Spanx.
Some stars even admit to wearing multiple pairs at once to slim down, but doctors say that is not safe and can even be life threatening.
Body shapers it is a multi-million dollar industry that women say is helping them look and feel their best. The problem is if women wear a pair that is too tight or even multiple body shapers it can lead to some major health problems.
"When women wear really tightly configured clothing, sometimes it can decrease the blood flow or what we call circulation to the body and what that can do is that it can actually lead to blood clots and those blood clots can travel to the lungs, to the heart and parts of the brain and that can lead to even death," said Dr. Farzaneh Sabi, an OB-GYN at Kaiser Permanente.
Other complications can include nerve damage and bacterial infections.
Sabi encourages women not to wear body shapers that are too small and to also be more accepting of their bodies.
