PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - The giant Avon beauty products distribution center in Pasadena is closing down.

There are about 170 employees at the 353,000-square-foot landmark Avon Products Inc. plant.

Company spokeswoman Jennifer Dwyer Vargas says transition plans are being worked out, but added it's unlikely the employees will be staying on with Avon.

The Pasadena Star-News says layoff notices are expected next year.

Avon says the Pasadena and Atlanta distribution centers are being closed as part of a plan to save $400 million a year by the end of 2015.

Avon announced last month that it plans to cut about 1,500 jobs and exit two Asian markets, as the struggling beauty products seller starts on a broad restructuring plan in an effort to turn around results.
