The Santa Maria Women's Network is honoring eight women Wednesday at its Women of Excellence dinner at the Santa Maria Inn. The women are being recognized for showing strength of character and work ethics, personal growth, and vision for the future.
The theme of this year's event is "An Evening of Inspiration." Of the eight women nominated by the community, four will take home with awards.
The awards will be presented in four different categories.
They are Women Taking Creative Risks, Women of Spirit, Women Helping Women, and Lifetime Achievement. The eight women were interviewed by a panel from the networking organization.
The women come from different walks of life, but the president of local non profit says they are all inspirational.
"The impact that these women have done is extraordinary and its really this evening is a way for us to look at them and say this is who we want to be like," said Santa Maria Women's Network President Donna Randolph.
About 150 people showed up at Wednesday night's event. The proceeds from will benefit the Santa Maria Women's Network Scholarship Fund, which helps students pay for college.
The group has about 80 members. They include men and women, who are dedicated to the overall advancement of women in society.
The Santa Maria Women's Network has been around for more than 30 years.
