A Bakersfield teenager is paralyzed from the chest down after a weekend ATV accident at the Oceano Dunes.
That's according to a statement from Independence High School football coach Sean McKeown. He says 16-year-old Tyler Schilhabel crashed at about 3:00p.m. Sunday. Schilhabel was reportedly the only person involved in that accident. San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies say Schilhabel was taken to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital by ambulance. McKeown says Schilhabel is now at Stanford Hospital, where he is recovering from surgery.
McKeown says Schilhabel was the quarterback of the football team at Independence High School. "The long term prognosis is uncertain, but right now Tyler is paralyzed from the chest down," said McKeown in a statement. "The next 36 hours is crucial to his overall recovery, and the family asks for continued prayers for Tyler and their family."
