A new study finds bariatric surgery not only helps treat obesity, but may improve brain function as well.
Obesity has been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease because extra weight affects how the brain metabolizes sugar.
When researchers did brain scans and cognitive tests on 17 obese women before and after surgery, they had normal metabolism and improved planning, organizing, and strategizing abilities.
