The central coast will be getting a new Basque restaurant this spring. The owner of two other central coast restaurants is taking over the lease at what was once the Old Vienna restaurant in Shell Beach.

Doug Simpson, who owns Alphie's Broiler in Arroyo Grande, and Alphie's Adobe Grill in Pismo Beach says he's always wanted to start a Basque restaurant locally.

Basque food is served up family style and Simpson says all meals will come with soup, beans, salsa, bread, potatoes, pasta and pickled tongue. Main courses include seafood, lamb, pork and chicken. There will also be a full bar. Alphie's Basque Chateau should be open in late March or early April.
