Berwick chooses Florida State

Atascadero senior Robbie Berwick got his college decision out of the way before the basketball season even started. Berwick announced he'll attend Florida State and play for the Seminoles in the fall. Florida State plays in the ACC and is coached by Leonard Hamilton,

Berwick recently visited the campus in Tallahassee. "I just really loved the facilities and coach Hamilton, we bonded and we became very close" said Berwick after picking Florida State over four other schools in a staged announcement at the Atascadero High School gym. Cal Poly, UTEP, Colorado State and Fresno State were the other finalists represented on a table by a hat. Surrounded by his family and with fans in the stands, Berwick announced his intentions while picking the Florida State hat off the table.

"I've had a dream to play against Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse, Louisville so I'm going to go and chase my dream, try and play in the ACC and work hard at it" said Berwick.

Florida State went 18-15 last year, losing in the first round of the NIT. In 2012, the Seminoles won the ACC tournament for the first time and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Coach Hamilton is entering his 12th season as head coach at Florida State.

The 6'4" Berwick expects to play both guard positions in college. "They believe that I'm a point guard, a shooting guard, a guy who can play both. They believe in me so I decided to go ahead and believe in them" said Berwick.

Last season Berwick led the Greyhounds to a share of the Pac-7 League championship. He's also the quarterback for the first place Atascadero football team.
