The California Highway Patrol says a bicyclist was hospitalized with major injuries Thursday night, after he was hit by a car on Highway 1.
It happened around 6:20 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway, just north of 24th Street in Cayucos.
CHP officers say Garry Kolb, 72, of Morro Bay, was riding his bicycle on the right shoulder, approaching the 13th Street off-ramp. Steven McGregor, 37, of Morro Bay, was driving in the number two lane at about 55 miles per hour, also approaching the off-ramp.
The CHP says McGregor saw that Kolb was starting to take the off-ramp, but then Kolb turned his bike to the left to cross the off-ramp right in front of McGregor's car.
McGregor hit the brakes, but still hit Kolb.
Kolb had major injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
