Bionic pancreas shows promise

A bionic pancreas that automatically delivers hormones when a Type 1 diabetic's blood sugar gets too high or low has shown promise in small clinical trials.

Both adults and teens were included in the studies, and researchers found those testing the new device were better able to control their blood sugar and had fewer instances of hypoglycemia.

The participants needed to stay near the study site, but future research will allow it to be tested at home.
