SAN DIEGO (AP) - The birds at La Jolla Cove are causing a stink.

The cove with its majestic cliffs is one of the prettiest spots in San Diego County but bird droppings are getting thicker and the smell is getting stronger.

La Jolla Parks and Beaches spokesman Patrick Ahern tells KFMB-TV (http://bitly.com/RzDCa5 ) that bureaucracy and environmental concerns prevent the use of cleaning chemicals.

Residents say maybe the answer is natural seawater and a scrub brush. Thousands of people have signed petitions calling for something to be done.

Painter Jeanine Salsman says she's not worried because nature will clean up after its own. She says rain and waves will clean it up and then the buildup will begin again.
