While Black Friday may be frantic for many in the retail business, some choose an alternative.

"Today is anti-Black Friday. We are out here enjoying the sun. We come from the mountains. I don't want to stand in a line, in a store, I want to embrace the beauty of Avila Beach," said Steve Schroeder, who is from Reno, NV.

And he is not alone, many took to the beaches, to the trails, and to the roads.

"Look at the weather. I am not going to go and fight crowds when it's 80 degrees and perfect," said Larry Fiscalini, who is from Santa Barbara.

"It seems that shopping stresses me out, and that's what I didn't want to. Today I am a lot more mellow. I can push myself on this thing instead of getting pushed in line," said Jason Roger, who rode his bike from Grover Beach to Avila Beach, Friday.

Pushed in line is exactly what BK Morrow wanted to avoid.

"The crowds enhance my personality, so as a result I prefer to keep my dazzling personality," said BK Morrow who was shooting rounds at SLOSA near Morro Bay.

This gun safety advocate, and many alike shot rounds as their Black Friday alternative.

"People would rather spend their money on ammunition and become more proficient with their firearms then they would fight the crowds," explained Morrow.

"The only Back Friday sale that I got to go to was Big Five to buy ammo, but it's okay because we feel like we are doing something responsible with our family," said Audrey Ortega.

This Santa Maria mom wants to be comfortable shooting a gun, her reasoning, safety and self protection. But this is not her ideal way to spend Black Friday.

"I would rather be at shopping at a boutique in Old Orcutt, buying a pretty sweater," said Ortega.

According to Adobe, Cyber Monday sales are expected to surpass Black Friday this year, reaching $2-billion, making it the leading shopping day.
