The City of Santa Maria is doing its part to raise awareness about blood donation. On Thursday the second of four blood drives was hosted by the City this year.
The event took place near the Paul Nelson Aquatics Center and is meant to help United Blood Services. Santa Maria city officials said blood donation is a community responsibility.
They said one in seven people entering a hospital need blood and that blood is needed every three seconds nationwide.
