All the San Luis Obispo Blues had to do to earn a spot in the Rawlings California Cup championship game was hold on to a 9-1 lead. The Blues weren't able to do that against Menlo Park and lost 12-9, costing them a spot in the championship of the tournament they're co-hosting with Santa Barbara.
The Blues won the first two games of the California Cup and jumped out to a 9-1 second inning lead against the Legends on Saturday night. Menlo Park scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before exploding for four runs in the seventh. All of the runs in the seventh came with two outs. The Legends added an insurance run in the ninth.
The loss snaps the Blues six game winning streak and drops them to 21-11 on the season.
The Blues, Legends and Bercovich Gold all went 2-1 in the San Luis Obispo side of the bracket but Bercovich advances to the championship game because it allowed the least amount of runs. Conejo won the Santa Barbara bracket and will play Bercovich in Santa Barbara on Sunday for an automatic berth to the NBC World Series.
