The San Luis Obispo Blues overcame a 7-2 deficit to win 8-7 at Orange County on Thursday. The Blues now have a five game winning streak and an 8-4 overall record.
After San Luis Obispo took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, Blues starting pitcher Kory DeLang allowed six runs in the bottom of the frame. All of the runs were un-earned as they came after a Blues error. Orange County scored again in the sixth before the Blues scored two in the eighth and four in the ninth for the win.
The Blues third hitter, Matt Shortall was 3-5 with a homerun and two runs batted in. Chad Girado pitched a perfect seventh and eighth inning to earn the win while Daniel Mengden pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save in four games.
The Blues are now 6-2 in the California Collegiate League while Orange County drops to 2-6, 3-7 overall. San Luis Obispo hosts a three game series against Top Speed Baseball. The games at Sinsheimer Park are at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The series finale on Sunday starts at 1:00. It is a non-league series for the Blues.
