Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning the fifth ranked San Luis Obispo Blues came back to beat the West Coast Kings, 6-5 in a non-league game on Saturday at Sinsheimer Stadium.
Jimmy Allen, who plays at Cal Poly during the school year was 2-2 with two doubles and an RBI. Allen knocked in the run with two outs and the Blues down 5-4 in the eighth inning.
The Blues (24-7) and Kings were tied three times but the Blues never led until Aaron Attaway scored on an error by the Kings catcher in the bottom of the ninth to win the game.
The Kings scored a run in the top of the first but the Blues answered with an RBI double by first baseman Derek Miller to get even in the bottom.
The Kings scored another run in the top of the second but the Blues answered again in the bottom with an RBI double by right fielder Cody Jones.
Blues reliever John Marc Shelly allowed two runs in the seventh. The first on a wild pitch and the second after the Blues committed their fourth error of the game. The Kings scored another run in the top of the eighth on a hit batsmen with the bases loaded to take a 5-2 lead.
The Blues loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, pinch hitter Nick Flair was hit by a pitch to force in a run. The bases were still loaded when Blues RBI leader Daniel Garner grounded into a double play allowing Kyle Johnson to score. Johnson was 2-4 with two runs scored.
Allen then knocked in the tying run and Attaway scored the game winner.
The Blues return to California Collegiate League action at home on Sunday at 4 pm against the Bakersfield Sound. The Blues beat the Sound, 9-6 on Friday night.
