In what's become a summer tradition, the California Collegiate League title comes down to the Santa Barbara Foresters and San Luis Obispo Blues this week. The Blues, who are ranked 9th in the nation, host a three game series with first place Santa Barbara. The Foresters are ranked 5th in the nation this week and hold a one game lead in the CCL North Division standings.
The two rivals, who've shared the CCL titles in 2011 and 2012, play Tuesday through Thursday in Sinsheimer Stadium. Each gave starts at 6 pm.
The Foresters have won 5 of the 6 meetings this summer, including the last five. One plus for the Blues is the series is in San Luis Obispo, where the Blues are 26-4 this summer.
"When it gets down to it, there's nothing better than a Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo Blues winner takes all type of thing. And if we can do what we can do as a club, we'll be alright. I like our chances," said Blues manager Chal Fanning.
The Blues are 19-13 in league action and 35-15 overall. The 'Sters are 20-12 in CCL games and 31-12 this summer. Santa Barbara is the two-defending national champion. Both teams will head to Wichita, Kansas later this week at the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas.
