The red-hot Blues returned and exploded for 14 unanswered runs after falling behind 1-0 to beat the MLB Academy Barons 17-4 on Friday night in Sinsheimer Stadium. First place San Luis Obispo won for the eleventh time in the last twelve games and improved to 9-3 in California Collegiate League and 14-5 overall. The Barons, who came into the game in second place, dropped to 5-3 in league.
The Blues tallied 18 hits and had five players with 2 or more hits. Nick Flair and Will Maddox each had 4 hits. Tanner Witt, Ryan Walker, Taylor Anderson and Austin Grisham had two hits apiece. Maddox, Witt and Flair each scored three times, while Grisham and Anderson each had 3 RBI.
The Blues fell behind early 1-0, but tied it in the second. Witt and Flair added RBI-singles in the third to give the Blues a 3-1 lead. Witt doubled home Maddox and Taylor Anderson singled in Witt and Flair as part of a three-run fifth to give the Blues a 6-1 advantage.
The Blues exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Maddox, Flair, Anderson and Nick Rosso collected run-scoring hits to give the Blues a 14-1 lead.
Brandon Carr added a two-run basehit in the seventh to make it a 16-3 game.
Kory Delange earned the win with 6 innings of work. He scattered 5 hits and allowed 1 run and struck out 5.
The Blues and Barons continue their series on Saturday at Sinsheimer Stadium at 6pm. They wrap up the series Sunday at 1pm.
The North County Indians also won big Friday night. The Indians opened a four-game weekend series with the Fairfield Indians with a 13-1 victory. North County improved to 11-1 on the summer. Cal State Northridge second baseman Ryan Raslowsky had 2 hits with a home run and 3 runs scored. The Indians collected 13 hits and built a -5 0 lead after 4 innings. Aaron Ashton had 3 hits and 2 RBI, while Brian Mundell scored twice and had 2 hits. The teams play a doubleheader Saturday in Templeton with the first game at 5pm.
