The San Luis Obispo Blues had a chance to make franchise history on their own Thursday night, but now will need help from the same team that just beat them.
Team Vegas knocked off the Blues 2-1 in San Luis Obispo's final California Collegiate League game of the season. The Blues dropped to 33-14 overall and 20-10 in league play. They still hold a 1.5 game lead over second place Santa Barbara. The Foresters host Vegas for a three game series that opens Friday. The Blues need Vegas to beat Santa Barbara once to seal their first-ever CCL outright title. The Blues and Foresters shared the crown last summer.
The Blues had outscored Vegas 20-5 in the first two games of the series, but could not overcome a 2-0 deficit in the finale.
Vegas scored single runs in the third and fourth inning against starter Will Cox. The right-hander scattered 5 hits and 2 runs in 7 quality innings for the Blues with 8 strikeouts.
Steven Manthei threw a complete game for Vegas. He allowed just 5 hits and 1 unearned run with 5 strikeouts.
The Blues were led by Keegan Dale, who had 2 hits. Tanner Donnels drove in the only run with a double to score Taylor Anderson in the fourth inning.
The Blues finish their regular season with a weekend series against the Rattlers. First pitch on Friday night at Sinsheimer Stadium is at 6pm.
