LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say they've recovered one body and are looking for two other people after a car plowed off a bridge into a Long Beach channel.
Long Beach fire and police officials say a small sport utility vehicle smashed through a metal guardrail Thursday morning and plunged about 30 feet off an Interstate 710 freeway bridge at Sixth Street.
Divers were sent down to the car, which was submerged in 20 to 30 feet of water in a murky channel. It was not immediately clear what caused the vehicle to crash.
Fire Battalion Chief Frank Hayes says a diver pulled one body from the water about a half-hour after the accident. Divers are looking for two other people who may have been in the car.
