NEWARK, Calif. (AP) - An eight-year-old boy is likely in some trouble and his father is in jail on an unrelated matter after police say the boy took the family car for a joyride and crashed into the motel room they were sleeping in.
Police told the Oakland Tribune (http://bit.ly/RNWx3H0 ) that officers went to the motel in Newark around 10:30 p.m. Monday after the boy apparently took the family's car keys, started up the car and crashed it into the room as his parents slept.
No one was hurt, but officers responding to crash found the boy's farther -29-year-old Ion Margel - was wanted on a misdemeanor theft warrant out of Orange County.
Margel was arrested and booked into a local jail.
Newark police Cmdr. Mike Carroll says the parents were not arrested in connection with the crash because they were sleeping at the time.
