Jordan Pickles clubbed a 2-run double in the fifth inning to give life to the Lompoc High baseball team. However, the Braves fell 11-3 to Westlake during the second day of San Luis Obispo High's 38th annual Spring Tournament.
The Braves fell to 1-2 in the 3-day tournament that ends on Friday.
Lompoc fell behind 5-0 until the Braves' bats came to life in the bottom of the fifth. Lompoc's rally as aided by three errors by the Westlake shortstop. Trent Howell hit a line-drive the shortstop dropped and then threw wildly to first allowing Jeremy Terrones to score Lompoc's first run. Pickled followed with a shot in the gap to left-center to score Howell an Josh Mallory to make it a 5-3 game.
Westlake exploded for 5 runs in the top of the sixth to seal the victory.
Also on Thursday, Cabrillo held on for an 8-7 win over Dos Pueblos. The Chargers scored 7 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but their late rally fell one run short. Cabrillo is now 1-2 at the tournament.
Host San Luis Obispo fell 3-1 to Royal to fall to 0-3 at its own tournament.
