Beijing Olympic Gold Medalist Stephanie Brown Trafton remains on track to defend her world title. The 32 year old won the qualifying round in the women's discus to advance to Sunday's finals at the US Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon.
The Arroyo Grande High and Cal Poly graduate won with a throw of 206 feet, 1 inch. It came on her third and final throw of the qualifying round. Aretha Thurmond finished second with a throw of 197-6.
The top twelve throwers in the qualifying round advanced to Sunday's finals. The top three finishers, who've met the Olympic A Standard of 203-5, earn spots on Team USA.
Trafton set the American record earlier this year of 222 feet, 3 inches. She is attempting to make her third US Olympic Team.
The final is Sunday at 3:05 pm.
